What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural yet altered state of deep relaxation and focused concentration in which the critical faculty is relaxed and selective thinking is maintained at all times. Hypnosis is used for relieving stress, managing pain, and/or accessing the subconscious mind to transform the beliefs that are held there.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is similar to the way we feel when we focus intently on one task to the exclusion of all others. You may feel this way while reading, exercising, or daydreaming.

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis relaxes the critical faculty so that the subconscious mind can be flooded with positive thoughts (also called suggestions or affirmations) to bring about a desired belief or behavior. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis for therapeutic work, primarily to find and transform or release self-limiting beliefs that prevent the desired change from taking place. Once this therapeutic work is done, the subconscious mind can then more easily accept suggestions to bring about the desired change.

How does hypnotherapy differ from psychotherapy?
Hypnotherapy and psychotherapy are used for different purposes. Psychotherapy is used for mental disorders such as anorexia/bulimia, depression, and sexual abuse. Psychotherapists analyze, diagnose, and counsel their clients. Hypnotherapy is used to overcome self-limiting beliefs that prevent us from achieving our potential. Hypnotherapists enable you to access your subconscious so you can find the answers that lie within you.

What is medical hypnotherapy?

Medical hypnotherapy (also called medical support hypnotherapy) is not the practice of medicine. The term is used for name recognition purposes only. Hypnotherapy can be used to control pain, accelerate healing, minimize side effects, and treat chronic conditions. Hypnotherapy is also used to overcome fear caused by medical settings or medical procedures and to promote acceptance and positive thinking after diagnosis. Other common uses are:
•    IV starts and needle phobias
•    Reduction of claustrophobic feelings during MRI and CAT scan
•    Burn care from radiation treatment for cancer care
•    Stress reduction in hypertensive patients
•    Pain management for arthritis
•    Childbirth preparation
•    Post-operative pain control and accelerated healing
•    Normalization of digestion for IBS
•    Regain normal sleep patterns
•    Pre-sedation calming and potentiation
•    Preventative medicine

Have you worked with (my issue) before?
Even if your issue is fairly common, such as insomnia, the subconscious belief driving that behavior varies from person to person. Every mind is unique, so the approach to each client is also unique.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?
In the first half of a session, we discuss the background of the issue (first session) or the progress made (subsequent sessions). In the second half of the session, you will explore the issue at the subconscious level using hypnosis.

How many sessions will I need?
Clients generally see results within 3-6 sessions per issue. If there are multiple issues, it’s best to begin with the most important one and resolve it before moving on to the next issue.
